SPECS DECODED

The Specs That Matter (In Plain English)

When choosing a heat pump, looking at technical specifications can feel overwhelming. We've broken down exactly what these specs mean in plain English to help you make the right choice for your home.

Technical Term
What It Is
Why It Matters To You
Heating & Cooling Capacity (kW)
The raw power output of the unit, measured in kilowatts.
Size matters. A 3.5kW unit is perfect for a bedroom; a 9.0kW unit is built for open-plan living areas.
COP & EER (Energy Efficiency)
COP for heating; EER for cooling. Tells you how much heat or cool air you get for every $1 of power.
Lower power bills. A higher number means a cheaper power bill.
Indoor Noise Level (dBA)
The volume of the indoor unit, measured in decibels.
Peace and quiet. Most modern hi-wall units run between 19dBA and 45dBA — 19dBA is quieter than a whisper, perfect for bedrooms.
Outdoor Operating Range (°C)
The extreme outside temperatures the system can handle while still working effectively.
Winter reliability. Look for units that operate down to -15°C so your home stays toastie even in frosty Kiwi winters.
Refrigerant Type (R32)
The cooling gas used inside the system pipelines.
Eco-friendly choice. R32 is the modern NZ standard — efficient and lower environmental impact than older gases.
